Scouts is the third section in the scouting family, and is typically seen as the original section. Scouts are typically 10½ to 14yrs old. As an active scout troop, we get up to all sorts of exciting and adventurous activities, both in our regular meetings and on camps and visits.
This term the Scouts have been learning to use a variety of stoves/fires to cook on and even created an Iron Age oven to cook on…. Celebrity master chef has nothing on them!
During our Group Camp the Scouts worked towards their Service Badge, providing help to the leaders in cooking and serving of meals and distributing the marshmallows at the camp fire. A job of extreme importance….Just ask the Cubs and Beavers! Scouts also displayed their camping and leadership skills to the Cubs by setting up their own camp site (fire, tents etc) and helping the Cubs to have a go at pitching their own tents.
The Scouts have taken part in night hikes and even tried their hand at celestial navigation (we’re pleased to report we didn’t lose any of them).
In the coming spring, our Scouts will be embarking on a series of physical challenges. Not only will they be working on the Athletics badge, but they will be polishing their Hiking skills in readiness for the Macclesfield Hike in March. In addition they will be working alongside our Cubs to attain the Cycling activity badge and take a ride out before Easter.
